The tip of the day !!

While learning a foreign language , feel comfortable making mistakes . 

This is called language exploration. 

Children learning their first language are allowed to explore the language, 

experiment and make mistakes. 

They develop a mastery of the language, in part, from feedback.

Learning a new language is no different.

Travel idioms !!

I am sure a lot of you would love to buy a ticket now 

and go to a place you  haven’t been before !!!

Because you also , like me , think that travel is the only thing 

that we buy that makes us richer …..

Because you also , like me , want to make 

memories all over the world …

But before we go to a new place , let's explore first 

a few idioms in english about travel.

backseat driver

A passenger in a car who gives unwanted advice to the driver is called a backseat driver.
I can't stand backseat drivers like my mother-in-law!



highways and byways

If you travel the highways and byways, you take large and small roads

 to visit every part of the country.
He travelled the highways and byways looking for traces of his ancestors.



my way or thehighway

It you say to someone 'it's my way or the highway', you are telling that person 

that either they accept what you propose or they leave the project.
You don't have much choice when someone says 'it's my way or the highway'.


hit the road

When you hit the road, you begin a journey.
It's getting late and we've got a long way to go.  Let's hit the road.

make your way to

If you make your way to a destination, you manage to get there without difficulty.
Don't worry. I'll make my way to your home from the station.

sail close to the wind

If you sail close to the wind, you do something dangerous or act just within 

the limits of what is legal or acceptable.
He seems to invest his money well although he often sails close to the wind.

on the wagon

Someone who is on the wagon is no longer drinking alcohol.
No wine for me please - I'm on the wagon.

asleep at the wheel

If you say that someone is asleep at the wheel, you mean that they are not

 sufficiently attentive, especially at a critical moment when vigilence is required.
When the firemen arrived too late at the scene, the night watchman 

was accused of being asleep at the wheel. 

in the same boat

If two or more parties are in the same boat, they are in the same unpleasant 

or difficult situation.
When the factory closed down, the workers all found themselves in the same boat.

miss the boat

If you miss the boat, you fail to take advantage of an opportunity 

because you don't act quickly enough.

I managed to get my order through before the end of the

 special offer - but I nearly missed the boat!

Bad news travels fast.

Information about trouble or misfortune disseminates quickly 

(more quickly than good news).

Έχω επισημάνει πολλές φορές ότι τα παιδιά 

μικρότερης ηλικίας μαθαίνουν πιο γρήγορα 

και πιο ευχάριστα την ξένη γλώσσα 

μέσω του παιχνιδιού .

Γι ’ αυτό και σήμερα λοιπόν θα μάθουμε 

τα μέλη του προσώπου 

στα αγγλικά παίζοντας !!!

I love colours !!!

Σήμερα είναι μια υπέροχη ημέρα , 

μια ημέρα γεμάτη χρώματα και φως ! 

Αυτό μου έδωσε την ιδέα να ασχοληθώ λίγο 

παραπάνω σήμερα με τα χρώματα στα αγγλικά .

Μιας και είναι Σάββατο , ο καιρός είναι καλός 

σκέφτηκα να κάνουμε ένα

διαφορετικό μάθημα για τα χρώματα

στα αγγλικά μέσω παιχνιδιού . 

Θέλετε να παίξουμε και να 

μάθουμε και τα χρώματα ;

Το πρώτο παιχνίδι ( game ) είναι πολύ διασκεδαστικό .

Τα χρώματα κλαίνε γιατί είναι γυμνά .

Ακούστε σωστά και πατήστε στο σωστό χρώμα.

Πατήστε εδώ για να παίξετε το παιχνίδι .

Το δεύτερο παιχνίδι έχει να κάνει με το συλλαβισμό

 των χρωμάτων

δηλαδή με την ορθογραφία τους.

Πριν σας δώσω το λινκ για αυτό το παιχνίδι

ας δούμε άλλη μια φορά εδώ 

πως γράφεται το κάθε χρώμα στα αγγλικά.

Μια συμβουλή ! 

Κοιτάξτε πολλές φορές την ορθογραφία της λέξης, 

αν χρειαστεί γράψτε την και σε ένα φύλλο χαρτί .

Πατήστε Το παιχνίδι ορθογραφίας 

και ξεκινήστε να παίζετε.

Το τρίτο παιχνίδι είναι η γνωστή σε όλους κρεμάλα .

Η κατάκτηση μιας ξένης γλώσσας 

είναι μια επίπονη , διαρκής διαδικασία. 

Απαιτεί μελέτη , προσπάθεια , πειθαρχία !

Το μόνο σας όπλο σε αυτήν την προσπάθεια 

είναι η πίστη στον εαυτόν σας ότι θα τα καταφέρετε , 

γιατί το αξίζετε !

Όλοι όσοι μαθαίνετε μια ξένη γλώσσα , 

το αξίζετε !

Ακόμα κι αν γευτείτε την αποτυχία , μη στεναχωριέστε , 

αλλά πεισμώστε γλυκά και προσπαθήστε ξανά !

Αποτυχία σε μια ξένη γλώσσα είναι μόνο η παραίτηση 

από αυτήν κι όχι η ατυχία να μην πάρεις το δίπλωμα !

Κρύο !!! Καιρός για .... γραμματική ( ! )

Τις τελευταίες μέρες κάνει ιδιαίτερο κρύο

 σε πολλές περιοχές της χώρας μας ,

γεγονός που μου έδωσε την ιδέα να γράψω 

αυτήν την ανάρτηση .

Cold weather idioms and phrases in English !!!

Here are some cold weather phrases as presented in Grammarly blog :

To come in from the cold (bring in from the cold): 

to be welcome in or become part of a group, particularly if you are new or alone. 

E.g. 'Susan brought me in from the cold when she offered for me to join the team.'

To leave someone out in the cold: 

to refuse or neglect to include someone in an activity, group, or conversation. 

E.g. 'As soon as she went to the table where the group was sitting, they stopped talking. She was left out in the cold.'

To give someone the cold shoulder: 

to ignore someone or minimally interact with them, usually as a passive aggressive form of punishment or disapproval.

 E.g. 'He’s giving me the cold shoulder after our argument last night.'

To be snowed in: 

to be trapped in a building due to the amount of snow.

 E.g. 'I can’t make it to the party tonight. I can’t even get out of the garage. I’m snowed in!'

To be snowed under: to be very busy with work, overwhelmed. 

E.g.'Since we took on the new clients, I’ve been snowed under. There is so much work to be done.'

To be on thin ice:

 to be on the verge of an unfavorable situation; to be on probation; to push the limits. 

E.g. 'You’re on thin ice, John. You’ve been late to work a lot lately and could lose your job!'

To put something on ice: 

to postpone something. 

E.g. 'We’ve been talking about this project for a while, but haven’t got anywhere. I suggest putting it on ice for now and moving onto another project.'

If you get wind of something, you hear or learn about it, especially if it was meant to be secret.

In a fog : 

If you're in a fog, you are confused, dazed or unaware.

Rainy day : 

If you save something, especially money, for a rainy day, you save it for

To be (as) pure as the driven snow:

Pure and chaste (Often used ironically.)

To run hot and cold : 

 to be unable to make up one’s mind .

to break the ice :

to create a more friendly and relaxed atmosphere .

to be on thin ice :

to be in a risky situation .

Μια "αλλιώτικη" αγάπη !!

Του Αγίου Βαλεντίνου σήμερα κι όλοι εξυμνούν 

την αγάπη , τον έρωτα ........

Εγώ θα σας μιλήσω για μια δικιά μου αγάπη , 

μια "αλλιώτικη" αγάπη , 

μια αγάπη που με συντροφεύει από παιδί .

Κι αυτή δεν είναι άλλη από την αγάπη μου για τα βιβλία .

Μια αγάπη που την έμαθα από τους γονείς μου .

Από μικρή απολάμβανα το ταξίδο μέσα στις σελίδες 

ενός καλογραμμένου βιβλίου ,

άφηνα τη μαγεία του να με παρασύρει 

        σε τόπους αλλιώτικους , μακρινούς ........

Οι ήρωες ξεπηδούσαν από τις σελίδες

και γίνονταν φίλοι μου ,

ακόμα κι όταν 

το βιβλίο ήταν κλειστό και τοποθετημένο 

στοργικά στο κομοδίνο μου .

Θυμάμαι από μικρή να αγγίζω με αγάπη το βιβλίο ,

να το ξεφυλλίζω προσεκτικά , να το μυρίζω !!

Συνήθεια που την έχω ακόμα και σήμερα !!

Τώρα που τα χρόνια πέρασαν και ο Θεός 

με αξίωσε και μου χάρισε το δώρο 

της μητρότητας και μάλιστα δυο φορές ,

προσπαθώ με τρυφερότητα να "περάσω" αυτήν μου 

την αγάπη στα δυο μου παιδάκια .

Γιατί πραγματικά πιστεύω ότι το να βοηθήσεις 

το παιδί σου ν'αγαπήσει το βιβλίο ,

είναι ένα από τα σημαντικά πράγματα

που θα πρέπει να κάνει ένας γονιός για το παιδί του!!

Οι αναγνωστικές ικανότητες μαθαίνονται στο σχολείο , η απόλαυση της ανάγνωσης όμως μόνο στο σπίτι .

Θέλετε το παιδί σας να αγαπήσει τα βιβλία ;

Τότε , ακολουθείστε αυτές τις συμβουλές !

1 ) Διαβάστε του βιβλία από πολύ μικρή ηλικία .

2 ) Διαβάστε του βιβλία κάθε μέρα .

3 ) Αγοράστε βιβλία που ξέρετε ότι θα ενδιαφέρει

το θέμα τους το παιδί σας .

4 ) Καθορίστε μια συγκεκριμένη ώρα κάθε μέρα 

για ανάγνωση βιβλίων .

5 ) Τοποθετήστε βιβλία στο χώρο όπου κινούνται

τα παιδιά στο σπίτι .

( Το να έχετε βιβλία σε διάφορα σημεία στο σπίτι 

βοηθά το παιδί να τα βλέπει σαν ένα

κομμάτι της καθημερινότητάς σας .)

6 ) Διαβάστε εσείς βιβλία και γίνεται 

παράδειγμα για τα παιδιά σας .
